When you hear the word funk, most people think New Orleans.  And that is home to The Soul Rebels.  The band has toured all over the world including sold-out multi-night runs at the Brooklyn Bowl.

Last week, the band kicked off a 3-night New York run at Garcia’s in Port Chester.  After a big snowstorm during the day, torrential downpours and flooding that night, fans still braved the elements and came out for a night of Nawlins funk.  And The Soul Rebels delivered.  The set featured a slew of originals and covers, each one funkier than the next.

The Rebels bring something very different to the stage.  They blend the sounds of a big brass band with traditional New Orleans funk, and add a touch of hip hop, bringing the fans into this unique euphoric atmosphere, leaving them begging for more.  The band brought their hip-hop side out Thursday with funky covers of “Show Me What You Got” and “Thank You” by Jay-Z, as well as “Touch the Sky” by Kanye.

The band continued onto the Brooklyn Bowl Friday and Saturday night for two sold-out shows featuring special guests Slick Rick, Mobb Deep, Styles P, Rahzel and more.  You can listen to a number of tracks and covers by The Soul Rebels on their Soundcloud.  For more information about the band, visit their website here.  Check out Garcia’s website to see who is coming to town next!
